After the other half and I went to a Memorial Day party in Fishtown, we decided to stop for an early dinner at Johnny Brenda’s. Most of the selections on tap were things I reviewed before, except for this one. This is a Philadelphia brewery that I’ve never reviewed anything from. Let’s see how this one fared.

ABV: 10.2%

Style: Tripel

Trivia: According to phillytapfinder.com, “This is a ‘Triple’ strength ale brewed with American grown Amarillo hops. The flavor is of tropical fruits and honey complimented by a hoppy finish.”

Random: I finally finished Season 4 of “Big Love.” It was a lot better than the previous season. I’ll probably watch the final season in a few weeks.

This beer poured with a one finger, white head that dissipated slowly. It left some lacing on the glass. The body was a light yellow color with moderate carbonation. The nose had some lemon zest and Belgian yeast notes without much else. The taste was a lot better than the nose. It started with Belgian yeast and clove. Then, it quickly went into notes with orange, mango and passionfruit and lemon. There was some honey sweetness to it as well. It had a medium thick body with moderate carbonation present. Despite the high ABV, there was no booze warming to the beer either. It had a long citrusy finish. This beer was pretty good. It wasn’t the best of the style that I’ve had, but definitely worth a shot. If you see it in Philly, grab a glass of it.
