Freethought Superposition

Val and I were in Westchester County a few weeks ago and made a stop at one of my favorite beer stores, Half Time. They have since put a brewery in half the store, which was absolutely packed. We didn’t stop at the tap room since it was so packed, but I’m sure we will be back. This beer was selected since it features an orange cat on the label and we have two orange cats (Simcoe and Citra). This one looks a bit more like Simcoe, who likes people less and is a bit more skittish. Let’s see how it was.

ABV: 8%

Style: American Double/Imperial IPA

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “unfiltered DIPA brewed with flaked oats, malted + unmalted wheat fermented with conan, double dry hopped with idaho 7 saturn peach, tangerine, creamsicle, guava, charentais melon + candied ginger”

Random: I’ve never heard of this brewery before and they apparently hail from Brooklyn and are distributed by Twelve Percent.

This beer poured with a three finger, thick, pure white head. It dissipated at a moderate pace and it left a lot of lacing on the glass. The body was a hazy yellow color with no visible carbonation due to cloudiness. The nose had a pine presence upfront with the note of unripe peach and watermelon rind. There was a tart guava note as well. The taste had a decent amount of depth. It started with more of a fruit presence. I picked up peach, tangerine and pomelo. There was also a guava note. I didn’t pick up much ginger on it. There was an oat note at the end. After a few sips, I picked up some orange too. The body was on the medium side with a lot of carbonation. The alcohol was well-hidden. It was a lengthy finish with peach. I thought this beer was outstanding and brought a bit more than the normal double IPA. I would definitely have this again.
