Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat

We’ve found a brewery that I’ve managed to never try anything from. I’ve seen some of their labels in beer stores in other states, but never come home with anything from them. Their labels are a bit on the campy side and not anything that’s all that attractive to me. I came home with this one from Philly because I was really in the mood for a fruit beer and I’ve never tried a beer that features tangerines.

ABV: 5%

Style: Fruit/Vegetable Beer

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “A refreshing citrus ale, Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat combines our Lost Coast Harvest Wheat with natural tangerine flavors. Brewed with a combination of wheat and crystal malts, and finished with Perle hops.”

Random: The other half and I really need a vacation. We’re probably going to end up going to Seattle or Portland, both of which would be very exciting.

This brew poured with a two finger, white head that dissipated quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The body was a very cloudy orange color with lots of carbonation visible. The nose was really fragrant with lots of sweet tangerine notes and a bit of wheat. I really liked it. When I got to the taste, it was a total letdown. It had all of the citrus, but none of the sweetness that was apparent in the nose. The primary flavor was obviously tangerine, but had a bit of bitterness at the end. Wheat was present, but not all that strong. The body was on the medium side with high carbonation. It had a rather long, bitter citrus finish. This beer was only alright and I wouldn’t rush back to have this one.
