Montauk Session India Pale Ale

So, we’re back from Hawaii and we enjoyed it a lot, but it’s so different from the rest of the country. We spent a week on the Big Island and a week on Kauai. Kauai was our favorite island by far, but overtaken by wild chickens. We had to avoid them in the parking lot of our hotel. Anyway’s beer time.

ABV: 4.9%

Style: American Pale Ale

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “A good choice for any type of session – surf session, golf session, party session, whatever the session, grab a Montauk Session IPA. Three hop varieties complement each other to offer floral and citrus aromas before you take your first sip.”

Random: This is a year round offering in cans and on draft.

The beer poured with a huge four finger, loose, white head. It took a long time to go away, but left a small crown and some lacing on the glass. The body was slightly hazy and yellow with some visible carbonation. The nose was relatively muted. I picked up some citrus, specifically lemon and grapefruit segments. There was some lightly toasted malt as well. The taste started with the same lightly toasted malt. It wasn’t overly bitter and didn’t have a huge amount of flavor. There was some citrus, but that was it. The body was light with a decent amount of carbonation. The finish was instant and unremarkable. I received this beer as a gift, so no commentary on the cost. But, this beer was just a miss for me, especially with how many other session IPAs are out there.
