Val and I went on vacation with my parents to Hilton Head, South Carolina. The closest area to Hilton Head happens to be Savannah. We decided to fly in there and spend a day in the city before making the 45 minute drive to South Carolina. The first place that we stopped was a brewpub in the middle of the city.
Style: American IPA
Trivia: This is a take off of their regular Swamp Fox IPA. The brewery website describes the regular beer as follows, “Like its namesake, this ale is known for the sneak attack. Hop-heads will enjoy its assertive bitterness and huge floral & citrus, dry hop aroma.”
Random: The place was pretty crowded, despite the fact that we went there off hours.
The brew poured with a half a finger of thick white head. It dissipated slowly and left some lacing on the glass. The body was clear and orange. It had a decent amount of carbonation visible. The nose was like sticking my nose in a rosemary plant. After my nasal passages adjusted, I picked up pine as well, but this was almost too much rosemary. The taste was, unfortunately, much of the same. It was way too much fresh rosemary and didn’t have anything else to back it up. After I searched a bit, there was an earthy pine and dirt characteristic to it. The body was medium thick with a lot of carbonation to it. It had a lengthy, herbal finish that was overwhelming to the palate. I finished the pint, but I wouldn’t order another one.
