One of the things I really enjoy about living with my other half is that she reads some very cool blogs (mine included). Some of them happen to be very interesting food blogs. One of them reviews food and restaurants, but also reviews different beers (Serious Eats). I just finished reading a review of a couple of Trader Joe’s beers which was a great read that I highly recommend. Anyways, here’s the last of the TJ’s bombers that the other half picked up for me. Let’s see how it went.

ABV: 8.4%

Style: American Double/Imperial IPA

Trivia: According to wikipedia.com, “A boatswain, bo’s’n, bos’n, or bosun, is the senior crewman of the deck department and is responsible for the components of a ship’s hull. The boatswain supervises the other members of the ship’s deck department, and typically is not a watchstander, except on vessels with small crews. Other duties vary depending on the type of ship, her crewing, and other factors.”

Random: The meow has gone through at least 3 cardboard scratchers in two weeks. I guess his claws are really growing.

This brew poured with a thick, two finger white head that dissipated slowly and left some lacing on the glass. The body was a clear dark orange color with heavy carbonation visible. The nose was very malty for style, specifically with a lot of caramel malt. There was a touch of citrus but it was really malty. The taste somehow was even more malty. For the style, the flavor profile was very odd. There was a touch of orange and maybe some pine, but it was way too malty. The body was thick, almost too much so with very high carbonation. The finish was long with alcohol and malt. This beer was only alright and not one that I’d have again.

Untappd Rating: 2.5/5.0
