When I got to Hop Yard 62, this beer had just been put on tap. Since the bar didn’t have any food, I ordered hibachi to be delivered to the bar. Apparently hibachi is a big thing in Grove City, since I passed about 10 different places in the city proper that had it. The other type of food that was really popular was Mexican food. They had four different places. I tried two of them and they were both solid and the portions weren’t gigantic. The salsa was really good too. Anyways, let’s get to tonight’s beer.

ABV: 8.8%

Style: American Brown Ale

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Double India Brown Ale, 8.5% ABV, 73 ABV, rich milk chocolate, tropical fruit, orange zest.”

Random: I assume they meant the beer had 73 IBUs.

The beer poured with a half a finger of light brown head. It dissipated slowly and left a lot of lacing on the glass. The body was a dark brown with moderate carbonation visible. The nose was filled with lots of piney hops. It had some hazelnut notes as well. The taste started with pine resin and quickly went into brown bread and bread crusts. Roasted chestnuts were there with a touch of alcohol. It had a medium thick body with high carbonation. The finish was lengthy with a lot of pine resin. This was one of the better brown ales I’ve had, although I can’t place if I’ve ever had a double brown ale. If you’re in the Ohio area, this one is worth a pint.
