Tonewood Improv

I’ve been trying to watch as much baseball as possible lately, but the Phillies just keep going up and down. I am thrilled by all of the off-season moves, I just hope they transition to the post-season.

ABV: 8%

Style: American Double/Imperial IPA

Random: This is the second Tonewood beer that I’ve had.

This beer poured with a two finger, white head. It dissipated at a moderate pace and left a lot of lacing on the glass. The body was hazy and bright orange in color. There was no carbonation due to the cloudiness. The nose started with pine and grass. It had an herbal note with a bit of onion as well. There was pineapple present as well. The taste had the same pine and herbal note up front. It transitioned into pineapple and orange zest next with a little bit of apricot and peach. The body was on the thicker side and wasn’t the most smooth. It had moderate carbonation. The finish was sticky, but did not hang around long with pine. I didn’t mind this beer, but it’s not worth searching for.

Tonewood Brewers Cut Dry Hopped Pilsner

New Jersey’s beer scene is booming lately. It seems like a new brewery is opening every month. One of my clients recommended checking out beers from Tonewood, which is south from me. I wasn’t able to visit the brewery yet, but I was able to pick up a can at my local beer store.

ABV: 5.2%

Style: German Pilsener

Random: There was no description about this beer on the website.

The beer poured with a one finger head that was pure white. It dissipated quickly and left very little lacing on the glass. The body was a shockingly cloudy yellow for a pils, but had generous visible carbonation. The nose had grain and mineral water. It had some floral hops as well. The taste was much of the same. It had mineral water and grain along with some floral and grassy hops. It had a light body with moderate carbonation. The finish was quick and grainy. I thought this beer was alright, but another middle of the road pilsner. I wouldn’t refuse it, but it wasn’t worth seeking out.
