Troon Malignant Horror

Although my drive to work has increased a bit, it gives me more time to listen to podcasts. I started a new podcast called “The Dream,” which I am really enjoying. I recommend listening to it if you get the chance. Anyways, beer time.

ABV: 12.2%

Style: American Double/Imperial IPA

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “WE DO NOT HAVE A TAPROOM AT THE BREWERY BUT 100% OF OUR DRAUGHT BEER GOES TO BRICK FARM TAVERN WHICH IS ON THE SAME PROPERTY. POURS AND FLIGHTS ARE AVAILABLE WHENEVER THEY ARE OPEN, EVEN WHEN WE ARE CLOSED. WE DO NOT SERVE ANY POURS OR TASTINGS AT THE BREWERY ITSELF. WE DO NOT HAVE TAPS AT THE BREWERY, WE DO NOT FILL GROWLERS, WE DO NOT OPEN UNLESS WE HAVE PRE-FILLED, 32OZ CANS OF OUR LATEST BEER AND HAVE ANNOUNCED IT ON INSTAGRAM BEFOREHAND.”

Random: I am not a big fan of sentences all in caps. Just a personal preference thing.

The beer poured with a one finger, thick, white head. It took forever to dissipate and left a lot of lacing on the glass. The body was very cloudy and bright orange-yellow in color. Because the beer was so hazy, I couldn’t see any carbonation. The nose was a lot of booze upfront. Given the ABV, I wasn’t shocked. There was some earthy hops as well. The taste was equally boozy, which overwhelmed the more delicate flavors of hay and grass. The body was thick and chewy with moderate carbonation. It had a lengthy and sticky finish with grass and booze. I wanted to like this beer, but it was just a bit too much for me. I wouldn’t rush back to this beer.

Troon Vaporwave

I was so excited to try Troon beers. They are only the next town over and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to try them.

ABV: 6.66%

Style: American Pale Ale

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Troon Brewing is located in beautiful Hopewell, NJ on the sprawling property of Double Brook Farm. The brewery is housed in one of the original barns here, built in the mid-1800’s, and every effort was taken to preserve the historic features of the building. We are also on the same property as the Brick Farm Tavern where you will find a constantly rotating selection of our beers that are meant to be drunk fresh, on tap. Our barrel fermented ales will be available naturally conditioned in bottles. Please note that the only beer we pour at the brewery is in growlers for off-site consumption, so if you are visiting the property and do not desire a fill please go to the Tavern for full pours and tastings.”

Random: The food at the tavern was amazing. If you’re in the area, it’s highly recommended.

The beer poured with a quarter of a finger of white head that dissipated quickly and left a lot of lacing on the glass. The body was hazy yellow with no carbonation visible. The nose had huge amounts of fresh citrus juice with some grass hops and green pepper notes. The taste was amazingly bright. It had a lot of tropical fruit. Specifically, I got pineapple and mango with argula and cucumber. There was also freshly cut grass at the end of the sip. The body was a perfect thickness with moderate carbonation. The finish was swift with citrus. This beer was perfection in a glass. I would search this one out immediately.
