My other half brought me back this beer from DC. She brought a six-pack, so this was the one that I saved for review purposes. I loved the fact that it was in cans. Let’s see how it was.
Style: American IPA
Trivia: According to the brewery website, “An American IPA, Primal Instinct exhibits the best qualities of American-grown hops. We’ve blended five different malts to create a strong malt backbone and complemented them with five flavorful hop varieties, including hand-harvested Cascade hops grown in our very own hopyard. This blend imparts robust aromatic and tasting notes of tropical citrus and resiny pine.”
Random: I’m watching “Proof” on the DVR. I’m not sure if I like the show yet.
This beer poured with a two finger, thick, pure white head that dissipated slowly. It left a lot of lacing on the glass. The body was a hazy orange color with high carbonation visible. The nose was filled with dank piney hops and earthy hops as well. I didn’t pick up any malt on the nose. The taste was much brighter than the nose. There was some grapefruit and then dank pine notes. There was some sweet, caramel malt at the end to balance it out. There was a hot booze note as well. It had a thick body with high carbonation. The finish was lengthy and hoppy. This was $1.83 a bottle, which was $.15 per ounce. I thought this was a good beer, but with so many IPAs out there, I wouldn’t search this out.
