Red Hare SPF 50/50 India Pale Radler

This was the beer that Val got at Moon River. Our dining experience (in terms of the food) wasn’t all that great and they offered us a “beer to go.” We declined, but had no idea what this meant. Apparently, in Savannah, you can walk the streets with an open container, which explained all of the bachelor/bachelorette parties in the city. We’re definitely a bit more low-key, so the drunk people falling on us wasn’t in the wheelhouse, but one thing we enjoyed was this beer.

ABV: 4.2%

Style: Fruit/Vegetable Beer

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “SPF 50/50 is a light, refreshing blend of Gangway IPA and our house brewed sparkling grapefruit soda. Sweet grapefruit zest mingles perfectly with citrusy hop notes, making this the perfect can to take with you everywhere this summer.”

Random: This comes in at 32 IBUs.

The brew poured with a half a finger of white head that dissipated quickly. Despite that, it left some lacing on the glass. The body was a bright orange color with some cloudiness. It also had a lot of carbonation visible. The nose had lemon and grapefruit with a simple syrup sweetness to it. I didn’t get much in the way of hops from this beer. The taste was very interesting. It started with some perfume-like floral notes and then went into a lemon-lime soda sweetness. I didn’t get grapefruit specifically on it. It was basically a beer soda. It had a really light body with high carbonation, which would be perfect for summer in the South. The finish was quick, but left some lingering sweetness from the lemon lime soda and floral hops. This was one of the more unique beers that I’ve had in a long while. If I could find it again, I would have it again.
