Beach Haus Cruiser IPA

I have a pretty cool job (well, sometimes). I work for a logistics company and the site that I’m at is an upscale company and pretty often, we get to deliver to celebrities. It is definitely different from my last job. One of the things that cracks me up is how angry people get about deliveries. To me, it’s just stuff. It’s not life or death. To some people, getting said “stuff” is indeed, life or death. Anyways, this is another brew that I had while out with my sister for brunch.

ABV: 6%

Style: American IPA

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “In April of 2013, a fourth brew joined the lineup called Beach Haus® Cruiser IPA, an India Pale Ale.”

Random: Although this beer is contract brewed, I’m happy to see them expanding their portfolio to more offerings.

This beer poured with a finger of pure white head on top of chestnut body with light carbonation visible. It dissipated slowly and left lots of lacing on the glass. The nose had some grapefruit and the caramel malt came out and dominated completely. The taste was pointed grapefruit and just like the nose, immediately went into huge amounts of malt sweetness. There was no real complexity to it at all. It was definitely a two-trick pony. The body was thick with heavy carbonation. It had a long finish with malt. I really wanted to like this beer, but it was just…boring. It had no complexity and nothing to make it stand out. I wouldn’t have this one again.

Beach Haus Classic American Pilsner

This was another beer that I had when I was out with the other half. I’ve seen it around and especially since it’s a local brew, I figured it was worth a try. I was a little skeptical because I tend not to like the style, but let’s see how it goes.

ABV: 5.3%

Style: American Pale Lager

Trivia: According to nj.com, “Beach Haus (pronounced the same, by the way, as the Beach House surf shop in Bay Head, which caters to old surfers rather than old beer-drinkers) bills itself as an ‘American pilsner.’”

Random: This also won a blind taste test done by nj.com.

This brew poured with half a finger of white head on a straw yellow body with very little carbonation. The head dissipated relatively quickly and left a bit of lacing on the glass. The nose was very mild with a little bit of malt. The taste was a bit on the sweet side with grain and grass present. This had a bit more body than I was used to for the style. It also had a longer finish than I was expecting. It also had lower carbonation on it than I was expecting for the style. Given all of this, I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would. It went down really easily and makes for a good session beer. I could have put a few of these away without a problem. I could see having a few of these in the summer while I’m barbecuing. Definitely worth a try.
