Thomas Hooker Watermelon Ale

Today was a crazy day at work. I honestly love crazy days at work because they really make the days go faster. Although, when you’re in the middle of a day like that, it really is stressful. I went out with a buddy of mine to one of the local bars I used to frequent when I lived in Union County and had a delightful pint of Sam Adams Summer Ale to wind down the day. So, the week is almost over and I’m now breaking into the Massachusetts brew stash. This is the first selection from the stash. Given that it’s a little muggy, I thought a fruit beer was in order.

ABV: 4.5%

Style: American Blonde Ale

Trivia: This brew has 165 calories and 11 IBUs.

Random: I’m a big fan of watermelon jolly ranchers.

The brew poured with a half a finger of white head that dissipated quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The body was a clear straw yellow color with lots of active carbonation. This pretty much looks a macro. The nose was exactly like a watermelon jolly rancher. It smelled exactly like artificial watermelon. This instantly made me skeptical. The taste was filled with lots of seltzer-y like carbonation that followed up with a slightly mellower artificial watermelon flavor. The body was actually quite odd. It was very carbonated, but slightly thicker and almost a little bit oily. Wow, I really do not enjoy this beer. At all. The finish lingered with the artificial flavor. It figures, my sister liked this beer, but it was a borderline drain pour for me. I wouldn’t have this again.
